Westport’s after-prom party called off
The high school will not host a drug- and alcohol-free after-prom party this year because too few parents committed to volunteering.
The parent-teacher association ran the overnight party for two years and said they were “very successful,” giving students activities at the high school to lessen the risk of drug or alcohol use, said Jeanne Cawley of the association, PAWHS. But not enough parents stepped up to help out this time.
“Please consider next year volunteering and please do not assume that ‘they have enough help,’ because this year we did not,” she said to parents. “A small handful of parents cannot do it themselves.”
The party included entertainment that included a magician, an obstacle course and a caricaturist. Students took a Breathalyzer test and had their car keys taken until 5:30 the next morning, and parents were notified when their child arrived at the school.
