Three school resource officers returning to Fall River schools
Students won’t be the only ones returning to school Thursday.
Police Chief John M. Souza and Superintendent Meg Mayo-Brown have reached an agreement to return three officers to city schools to serve as school resource officers. The deal will put the officers in B.M.C. Durfee High School and the city’s four middle schools beginning Sept. 10 and ending on Oct. 2. The officers will be paid through the Police Department’s budget.
Both Souza and Mayo-Brown said discussions between the two departments will continue this month in an effort to extend the SROs presence throughout the school year via School Department funding.
Through the agreement, Officer Michael Fogarty, will be stationed at Durfee, while Officer Maria Kennedy will rotate between James M. Morton and Edmond P. Talbot middle schools.
