Taunton’s city solicitor considers following Flanagan to Fall River

There’s been talk lately that when Will Flanagan begins his first term in January as mayor of Fall River that Steven “Tip” Torres, Taunton’s city solicitor, will be joining him as his chief counsel.
Torres, 43, has been Taunton’s solicitor since 2000. Flanagan, 29, most recently served under him as his sole assistant.
When contacted this week, Flanagan would neither confirm nor deny his intention of offering Torres the job of corporation counsel (the equivalent of city solicitor) in his new administration, a position now held by Arthur D. Frank.
He also emphasized that outgoing mayor Robert Correia, at least for the next four and a half weeks, is still officially in charge at Fall River’s Government Center.
“I do not have the authority or power to make appointments at this time,” Flanagan said.
But he did not discount the current speculation surrounding Torres, and did not hesitate to heap praise upon his former superior.
