Task force to tackle energy vision

Five months after rolling out a far-reaching alternative energy vision that city officials hoped would make the Spindle City a magnet for green jobs and industries in the future, a task force was unveiled Tuesday with an aim to take that vision from its infancy to reality.
The city and Newport Collaborative Architects first announced the Fall River Energy Enterprise plan in April, with potential projects including restoring hydroelectric power through a dam in the Quequechan River, and removing a number of Route 79 ramps to free up waterfront development.
At that time, Mayor Robert Correia called on residents to to volunteer for the task force. Within the next month, the city received more than 60 applications from people representing dozens of diverse fields. Correia said the chosen members came from similar educational backgrounds, all with experience relating to the environment, architecture, engineering, historical preservation, and solar energy or geothermal energy.
