Swansea man pleads guilty to child pornography charges

A trial was set nearly threes years to the date of Joseph Silva’s arrest. Silva instead decided to plead guilty Tuesday to numerous federal charges related to child pornography.
Silva, 34, of Swansea, faces up to 60 years behind bars on charges of sexual exploitation of a child, transportation of child pornography and possession of child pornography. He could also be fined $250,000 for each charge, and given a life term of supervised release. Silva is scheduled to be sentenced on June 29 by United States District Judge Nathaniel Gorton.
Silva, who formerly ran Silver Falcon Stables in Swansea, is accused of persuading a 15-year-old female student to be photographed in various sexually explicit poses while working as a horseback riding instructor in Lakeville during the summer of 2003.
