Sullivan seeks eighth term in Statehouse

As speculation swirls on who will run should state Sen. Joan Menard retire, one local state representative said he is gearing up to retain his seat.
Rep. David Sullivan, D-Fall River, said he is seeking an eighth term for the Sixth Bristol representative district. Sullivan has held the seat since being elected in 1997 after a six-year stint on the City Council.
He said he has no interest in Menard’s seat regardless of the veteran politician’s campaign decision.
“No, I’m not going to run for Senate,” he said.
While a potential Democratic competitor has yet to emerge, with nomination papers only becoming available Feb. 9, Sullivan will likely have to face a Republican candidate before he can retain his seat.
David Rose, a state committeeman for the First Bristol Plymouth District and treasurer of the Fall River Republican City Committee, has formed a campaign committee with an eye toward Sullivan’s Sixth Bristol seat.
