Somerset voters head to Venus for second try at Town Meeting

The second try at a special Town Meeting will take place Monday night at the Venus de Milo Restaurant. The doors open at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 7 p.m.
Town Meeting first convened last Monday, but ended with no resolution after a huge crowd of voters swamped the high school auditorium and audio equipment malfunctioned, making it impossible to communicate with voters in overflow areas.
At the request of Town Moderator Lucia Casey, police continue to investigate whether an audio cable was deliberately cut. Police Chief Joseph Ferreira said there was a cut in the cord but that it could have been run over accidentally. Ferreira also said the damaged cord was not the sole cause of the audio troubles. Sound could not be restored even after the cord was repaired, Ferreira said.
Town Meeting voters will determine if the town will regionalize its high school with nearby Berkley.
