Santa lands at Greene Elementary

A very special visitor made a trip from the North Pole to the William S. Greene Elementary School just two days before Christmas.
Santa Claus was on hand to pass out 360 teddy bears to an excited group of students in Pre-K, kindergarten and first grade. The bears were donated to the school by the Disabled American Veterans William S. Greene Chapter 9 of Fall River. The veterans group and the school are both named after William Stedman Greene, who served as mayor of Fall River in the late 1800s. A flagpole located in the front of the school was also donated by the veterans.
According to John Borges, past commander of the veterans group, members have given Christmas gifts to Greene students for approximately 30 years.
“The kids get very excited,” he said. “It’s a wonderful thing.”
