Police apprehended two men and were searching for two others after a man was shot in the area of 280 Fifth St. Sunday night.
The victim, accompanied by a police officer in an ambulance, was taken to St. Anne’s Hospital. He later was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. There was no immediate word on his condition.
Witnesses reported five gunshots rang out shortly after 8 p.m.
After police were told a small green auto sped from the scene toward Plymouth Avenue, Officer Robert Schoonover spotted such a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction on Stafford Road from Plymouth Avenue.
Schoonover said he believed the car was occupied by four males, but by the time he turned around on Coral Street, chased and stopped the vehicle at the corner of Stafford Road and Brayton Avenue, there were only two male occupants.
