Pay-as-you-throw coming to Freetown
The town has always taken pride in how it likes to go green. Now, it will go lime green.
The town is launching a campaign to increase public awareness of its pay-as-you-throw program, which will begin July 28. Authorities say the program will reduce residents’ trash costs and promote recycling.
Through this program, resident can purchase lime green bags for $1 or $2 per bag from local stores.
Residents will be encouraged to place stickers on large bins, recycle as much as possible in the bins and throw trash into the bags. Stickers can be picked up at local stores.
“They can control their costs by doing recycling as much as possible,” Healey said.
Healey and Health Agent Paul Bourgeois said the town has received mostly positive feedback about the new program.
