Ownership issues stymie long-term solution for Forge Pond Dam
Judith Jackson called them the dam watchers.
Since the early 1970s, state dam authorities would visit the ailing Forge Pond Dam and express an interest in repairing it. If they had repaired it, Jackson said, it could have helped turn the 60-acre pond into a pristine waterway — a place where as a child Jackson once rode a sailboat.
But for nearly four decades nothing has happened — even after a citizens group led by Selectwoman Lisa Pacheco met with state officials in 2007.
Jackson, a Forge Road resident, and others say the ownership issues have always stood in the way of a long-term solution for the 300-year old dam, which has grown more complicated after the supposed owner of the dam, Andre Fournier, died last year.
