Ordinance to protect Copicut properties passes

The Committee on Ordinances and Legislation agreed Wednesday night to send to full City Council adopted regulatory ordinances to protect the private properties of the Copicut Reservoir area.
Several residents have complained of fishermen and others failing to use designated parking areas near the reservoir, instead parking their vehicles in front of homes and in driveways, then walking through the private properties to get to the water.
“We hope to meet with the neighbors and designate on the street “no parking” areas,”  
Director of Public Utilities Terrance Sullivan told the committee. Other signage such as “no crossing thru private properties” is also being considered.
There also have been reports of illegal dumping in the Copicut area, for which violators can be fined up to $5,000. Residents say they try to write down license plate numbers of offenders’ vehicles.
