O’Neil, DeJesus both confirm interest in Senate seat if Menard leaves

Potential candidates for the state senate seat currently held by Joan Menard are continuing to wait for the incumbent’s decision on running for another term.
Two Somerset residents, Selectman Patrick O’Neil and John DeJesus, Thursday confirmed that if Menard bows out of the position they are interested in entering the race to succeed her on Beacon Hill.
“I am considering it,” O’Neil said. “Obviously I’m going to give Sen. Menard some space in regards to her decision. Obviously, I would only run if she wasn’t going to run.”
DeJesus had a similar tune.
“I am strongly considering a run if she does not run,” DeJesus said Thursday. “If she’s running, I will give her all of my support.”
Both men are registered Democrats and could be entering a crowded field for the party’s nomination. Former Fall River Mayor John Mitchell has said he is strongly considering a campaign should Menard vacate her position, and Fall [...]
