Off-duty officer catches man accused of fleeing car crash

An off-duty officer happened to be in the right place at the right time after a motor vehicle accident.
Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Gauvin said officer Joseph Texeira was traveling in the area of 1158 Globe Ave. when he came across a three-car accident with the man accused of causing the crash missing from the scene. Upon Texeira’s arrival, witnesses told the officer the driver of a 1998 Hyundai Accent who had caused the accident had run from the area. With witnesses pointing him in the right direction, Gauvin said, Texeira chased the suspect through city streets eventually tackling him in the Palmer Street area.
Gauvin said the suspect was identified as Jason Robles, 28, of 984 High St., and charged him with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of property damage.
