Nuisance property ordinance goes before Council committee tonight
City officials tonight are addressing an enforcement ordinance for “chronic nuisance properties,” defined as those where authorities are summonsed three or more times within 60 days.
Proposed by Mayor Will Flanagan, the law would allow police to levy up to a $1,000 fine for failure to respond to a written warning that the owner’s property is being so designated.
The City Council’s Committee on Ordinances & Legislation has summonsed officials from various sectors to address the proposed law.
“This proposed ordinance will allow for city officials to more adequately combat the neighborhood problems that are caused by properties that are consistently the cause of calls to the Police Department,” Flanagan wrote the council.
The meeting will be held at 5:15 p.m. in the Government Center council chambers and is the sole item on the agenda.
