Notoriety of accused baby kidnapper delays Superior Court arraignment

Notoriety chased Kimberly Johnson into western Massachusetts and delayed the beginning of her travels through justice.
Johnson, 38, also known as Alyssa Johnson, was scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in Superior Court on charges that she kidnapped her niece, 13 months old, and then abandoned her in a parking lot in Middletown, Conn., 110 miles away, on Feb. 18.
She was arrested on Feb. 25 in Holidaysburg, Pa., by a police task force that traced her through her e-mail and cell phone use. She was returned to Massachusetts and arraigned in District Court on March 22. She has been held since on $2.5 million bail.
Police allege that Johnson was taking her half-sister and her two nieces to the Swansea Mall on Feb. 18 for a shopping trip. Johnson stopped at a convenience store for coffee. When her sister got out of the car to get the coffee, police allege, Johnson got her 2-year-old [...]
