Man charged with abusing 5-month-old

Police have charged a man with abusing a 5-month-old child.
Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Gauvin said Justin J. Sousa, 23, of 704 Plymouth Ave., second floor, has been charged with assault and battery of a child with substantial injury after investigators were called to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence on Friday.
Gauvin said Detective Steven Washington and Detective Lt. Kevin Tetrault responded to the hospital and were notified by the attending physician that the child suffered a fractured right arm and bruises on the left side of the head, cheek and shoulder areas. Gauvin said the physician also reported the child had suffered a fractured left knee that.
Gauvin said the physician determined the injuries were the cause of abuse and after a lengthy investigation, Gauvin said it was determined probable cause existed to arrest Sousa.
