I-195 traffic barriers to be removed in Fall River
Jersey barriers and other traffic restrictions along Interstate 195 will be removed by the end of next week, weather permitting, state officials said.
The installation of ceiling panels and fireproof materials under Government Center is about 95 percent complete, with only some work and cleanup left to be finished, according to Department of Transportation Spokesman Adam Hurtubise.
All major work is scheduled to be complete by April 30, he said.
Community Maintenance Director Kenneth Pacheco said the city usually receives one week’s notice from MassDOT before traffic pattern changes are implemented.
He said the city is awaiting notification in writing.
Removal of traffic barriers is only temporary, however, as the Braga Bridge painting project is set to begin.
M&J Contracting will set up barriers shortly after the barriers under Government Center are removed.
Hurtubise said traffic restrictions during the bridge painting project won’t extend through the tunnel under the building.
