I-195 ramp not badly damaged
The ramp over Interstate 195 that was hit Thursday by a tractor-trailer was not structurally damaged, a MassHighway spokesman said. The impact split the cab from the trailer, flipped both, and tied up eastbound traffic for hours.
The front of the truck’s body was left elevated as James Parker, 47, of Fairhaven, drove east over the Braga Bridge, State Police said. The top of the body hit an overhead sign and the overpass, which leads to I-195 West. The trailer and cab separated, and the cab landed on its roof. The trailer struck and leaned against a Subaru driven by Barbara Swanson, 47, of Pawtucket, R.I.
Parker was brought to Rhode Island Hospital and released. Swanson was uninjured.
Both eastbound lanes were closed for a short time, but were reopened during the evening rush hour.
