Greene students show their colors

It was a sea of red, white and blue at the William S. Greene Elementary School on Friday.
Debra McCarthy’s fourth-grade class organized a parade to celebrate the homecoming of Marine Sgt. Daniel Pare, who had exchanged letters with the class throughout his six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan. The entire student body marched around the block of the South End school singing patriotic songs. Most of the children were adorned in American flag apparel and every class made a sign thanking Pare for his service. They even recruited Mayor Will Flanagan to take part in the celebration.
“It was great,” said Pare, who returned home May 15. “When you know you have support from back home it shows purpose for being out there. We’re not out there to conquer anything, we’re out there to help the people. It’s nice to get support.”
