Fall River’s newest ambulance hits the streets
It only took about three hours for the city’s newest medical rescue unit to be called into action.
The shiny red ambulance’s first call Tuesday was for a resident suffering from cardiac arrest. Officials said they expect the unit to remain busy.
The latest addition to the ambulance fleet was being shown off outside Government Center Thursday morning. The 2010 model comes with a number of safety features, including airbags to protect paramedics in the back of the ambulance and LED lights built into all opening doors.
The ambulance also has a new color scheme, with red the dominant color and a white stripe. Previous ambulances were the same color, but with a reversed pattern. The change was made to make the trucks more closely match the city’s fire department units.
The new unit replaces a 1995 model, which will be used as a spare when active engines are out of service.
