Fall River man sentenced to five years in prison for heroin scheme
A Fall River man was sentenced Monday to 60 months in federal prison and four years supervised release for conspiracy and possession with the intent to distribute nearly 730 grams of heroin.
Baker Alli, 50, and two co-defendants, pleaded guilty in May in U.S. District Court in Providence to trafficking heroin from India. A fourth person is being sought.
The sentence, announced by U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha, was imposed by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Mary M. Lisi.
Federal law enforcement agents intercepted packages containing large quantities of heroin at the Cincinnati/Kentucky Airport and the International Mail Branch of JFK Airport in New York in October 2009. The packages, addressed for delivery in Rhode Island, contained 338.1 grams and 391 grams of heroin. Agents posing as deliverymen completed delivery of the packages, and continued their investigation which resulted in arrest warrants being issued for four individuals.
