Fall River feedback sought on making schools safe and drug free
The school department is seeking community input on methods to make schools safe and drug free.
Assistant Superintendent Victor Capellan said a survey has been placed on the school department’s Web site as part of the federal Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities grant renewal process. Fall River is eligible to receive $85,000 for this school year through the grant. The survey will be available until Friday.
The grant currently provides funding for the Peaceful Coalition, a gang prevention program at B.M.C. Durfee High School that has expanded into other schools. Capellan said the district also implemented the Second Step program for students in kindergarten through the eighth grade to teach students positive behaviors in interpersonal situations.
