FACT CHECK: Will Mendon’s tough approach to strip clubs work in Fall River?
As the repetitive debate over strip clubs plays out as Fall River’s own version of "Groundhog Day," mayoral candidates William Flanagan and Cathy Ann Viveiros have taken different approaches to the future of adult entertainment inside city limits. And a small Blackstone Valley town of less than 6,000 has emerged as a lightning rod in the neverending battle.
Flanagan has invoked the regulations established by the town of Mendon as a road map for how to keep strip clubs out of Fall River. But Viveiros has panned the concept, voicing concern that such a method will lead only to litigation and expensive legal bills.
Mendon Town Coordinator Dale Pleau said the town established regulations last October prohibiting alcohol use in adult entertainment venues.
