Dickinson Street pool shed gutted by fire

No one was injured when a backyard pool shed was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon on Dickinson Street, officials said.
A large propane tank feeding a pool heater ignited, producing a fire plume that firefighters needed to water down to burn itself out for about four hours, Deputy Fire Chief William Silvia said.
“We’re not sure of the cause. We think it may have been a malfunction of the pool heater,” Silvia said.
He noted there had been an electrical storm that afternoon.
The fire happened at the rear of a single-family residence at 522 Dickinson St. in the area of South Watuppa and Bleachery ponds.
Silvia said the owner, whose name was not immediately available, was home.
The pool shed and surrounding wooden deck were heavily damaged, he said.
Engines 4, 5, 9 and 12, Ladder 2, an ambulance, heavy rescue and chief’s car all responded to the reported house fire about 12:50 p.m.
