Death of 100-year-old patient at Dartmouth nursing home is ruled a homicide
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday the death of a 100-year-old patient at a Dartmouth nursing home last month was a homicide.
State and local police were called to the Brandon Woods Nursing Home, 567 Dartmouth St., for an unattended death at about 7 a.m. on Sept. 24.
Upon arrival, police were notified that the victim, Elizabeth Barrow, was found deceased in her bed by a nursing assistant during a routine check of the facility’s patients.
“Her body was transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, the results of which revealed that the cause of death was manual strangulation, and the manner of death, a homicide,” stated Lisa Rowell, media assistant for the district attorney.
The State Police Detectives Unit assigned to District Attorney Sam Sutter’s office, in conjunction with the Dartmouth police, are investigating.
Rowell said no further information is being released at this time.
