Copicut Cleanup cleans up

Sara Riley never thought her neighborhood cleanup would become this big.
Riley is expecting 170 volunteers for this Sunday’s Copicut Cleanup. The third annual event begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. with a lunch break in between. The cleanup spans the entire Southeastern Massachusetts Bioreserve, which includes the Copicut Reservoir, Copicut Road, Fall River Watershed, Trustees of Reservations conservation land and the Freetown/Fall River State Forest.
About 55 volunteers turned out for last year’s cleanup. Despite the inclement weather, those who attended picked up countless yards of construction debris, propane tanks, car parts, toilets, roofing shingles and more than 150 tires.
To show her appreciation, Riley gives all volunteers T-shirts, pizza donated by Nick’s Pizza in Westport and sandwiches from Subway.
