Coogan takes aim at Menard in senate campaign kickoff
Looking to breathe fresh air into the state Senate seat held by Joan Menard for the past 10 years, city firefighter Michael Coogan said he’s ready to lead the charge.
“If you’re tired of politics as usual, as I am, then join me in taking back our government,” Coogan said outside Government Center Wednesday, when he formally announced his candidacy for the First Bristol and Plymouth Senate seat.
“I feel our current senator has become disconnected and lost touch with the constituents,” Coogan said. “Many people I’ve talked to don’t even know we have a state senator and don’t know who she is, and that needs to change. And I’m willing to bring about that change. Together we can make that difference.”
Coogan, 43, of Freetown, is seeking to claim the seat held by Menard since 2000. She represents Fall River, Somerset, Swansea, Freetown, Westport, Lakeville and Rochester. An aide in Menard’s Statehouse [...]
