Closing the book on the nicotine habit

According to a study conducted by the Massachusetts Department of Health, nearly one in three adults in Fall River smoke.
The Partnership for a Smoke-Free Community is hoping to do something about that.
Julianne Kelly, coordinator of Mass In Motion-Fall River, is a member of the partnership that has been meeting regularly since last December. They came up with the idea of creating bookmarks to provide information on local resources provided by hospitals and community health centers on how to quit smoking.
“With the Great American Smokeout coming up on November 19, we wanted to get something out there so that people will have something in their hands if they are trying a quit attempt,” Kelly said.
Organizations like the Stanley Street Treatment and Resources, Council on Aging, St. Anne’s Hospital, HealthFirst, Kindred Healthcare, Bristol Community College, the American Heart Association and Southcoast Hospitals Group are all involved in the partnership.
