The City Council is calling on the attorney representing the School Committee to forego a change in his job description and the raise that went with it.
The request comes after Councilor Pat Casey submitted a resolution calling on Bruce Assad to “forego this astronomical raise during this time of severe budget restriction.” Casey said the raise is in bad form as the city seeks pay reductions from municipal employees.
“I put this resolution in because when I first heard about (it), and it has nothing to do with any person — it’s policy — I was totally taken aback,” Casey said. “People in Fall River, some not even making $32,000, have agreed to take an 8-percent cut because of the financial times. When these people are willing to take a pay cut — and I know we have no control over what happens in the school department or School Committee — [...]
