City Clerk Carol Valcourt retiring this month

City Clerk Carol A. Valcourt is retiring at the end of the month after nearly 30 years working in city government, 15 of them as city clerk, following the retirement Friday of her husband Ronald A. Valcourt as District Court clerk magistrate.
Assistant City Clerk Alison Brett will be appointed to the $87,994-a-year position on Dec. 1, Valcourt said.
“It’s a good time for both of us. That’s why I’m doing it,” Valcourt, 52, said of retiring after her husband.
“I think couples just don’t have enough time to spend together. Each of us has high-paced jobs,” she said. “Ron started talking about it. We both have projects we wanted to take on. Our daughter’s in college,” she said of Lauren, a Rhode Island College freshman. “The timing just worked out really well.”
The family has lived in Somerset for nearly 20 years. Both Carol and Ronald Valcourt grew up in Fall River.
