Brazen thieves steal bronze sculpture
A 300-pound bronze sculpture was stolen from the Four Corners Arts Center earlier this week, leaving the local art community wondering who could have committed this heinous act.
Jennifer Sunderland, executive director of the Four Corners Arts Center, said she noticed that “Embrace of Life II” was missing when she drove by the grounds on Main Road Tuesday morning.
“It’s pretty disappointing,” said Sunderland, who immediately notified the Tiverton Police Department when she discovered the sculpture had been removed from its metal base.
According to Sunderland, the Four Corners Arts Center has had 70 works of art on display in its sculpture park over the last decade and have never had a theft or vandalism.
“We’re hoping this was an isolated incident,” said Sunderland.
Sunderland said the sculpture was on loan from Narragansett artist Mimi Sammis, who has had her work displayed at the United Nations and was also commissioned for a piece [...]
