Book lovers help library turn the page after flooding
When Jennifer Rashleigh moved her young family to Highland Road in Tiverton, a large reason was the home’s proximity to the Essex Library.
“It was an integral part of my kids’ lives,” said Rashleigh.
Heavy rains in late March flooded the library’s basement. The children and teen section was hit the hardest, losing approximately 4,000 books from its collection. After months of cleaning up, the area just reopened on June 28.
Rashleigh was one of several Tiverton residents who wanted to lend a hand. She would bring her children Cede and Ian Rashleigh McNally to the library once a week when they were younger. They have attended the Essex summer reading program for several years.
“We would pick up 10 books per week,” said Rashleigh. “The Essex Library has everything to do with why my children love to read.”
