Bid to lower Fall River’s contribution to Diman fails

The story of the city’s attempt to reduce its contribution to Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School by $293,888 for this fiscal year seems to be just about over, said Karl Hetzler, chairman of the Diman School Committee.
The issue of the proposed contribution cut was on the Diman School Committee’s agenda Thursday night, but no action was taken and the matter was not discussed, Hetzler said.
The Massachusetts Department of Revenue informed Fall River officials in a Sept. 15 letter that the city qualified for the waiver of its contribution to Diman, which also serves Somerset, Swansea and Westport. The city’s contribution for this fiscal year was provisionally reduced by 10 percent to $2.6 million — a savings of $293,888. But the other Diman towns would have had to approve the cut for it to take effect.
