The UMass Dartmouth Library Associates will feature “Voices From the Waterfront,” a portrait of the New Bedford Fishing Industry based on interviews conducted by authors Kirsten Bendiksen, Laura Orleans and photographer Markham Starr.
The program will be held 7 p.m. tonight at the University’s Carney Library browsing area. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
“Voices” highlights 43 individuals from the New Bedford/Fairhaven fishing community, including retired and active fishermen, lumpers, auctioneers, shoreside business owners, fisheries scientists, tugboat captains, fishing family members and others.
This collection of personal views and photographs is part of the Working Waterfront Documentation Project. The book will be available for signing by the authors.
